January 30 - February 3, 2001
Westin Resort Ta Shee, Taiwan
Following up on the success of
the NeXt Generation Tennis Camp held July 2000 in Los Angeles, the Chang Family
and Chang Family Foundation were excited to coordinate the first Asian installment
of the CFF NeXt Generation Tennis Camp with Michael Chang in Taiwan, ROC from
January 30 to February 3, 2001.
The Westin Resort Ta Shee, provided
wonderful facilities for the high performance tennis camp and the Chang Family
Foundation was able to have sixty campers at all levels of tennis ability.
Some of Taiwan's highest ranked and most promising juniors between the ages
of 10 and 18 were able to participate and receive five days of personalized
tennis instruction from Carl and Michael Chang.
Sponsors and donors were instrumental
in supporting this tennis development camp where youth were given an opportunity
to learn about what it takes to be successful on and off the tennis court.
Major donations came in various forms from the Hone Shee Group, the Westin
Resort Ta Shee, China Airlines, King Car Educational Foundation, Reebok, Chai
Win Sports, and several other wonderful sponsor/donors to this non-profit
Tennis Camp. During a special VIP-Thank You event for sponsors, Dr. Li Yuen
Tse, Taiwan's Nobel Prize-winning Chemist, Chairman Lee from China Airlines,
and Ambassador Stanley Kao, the Director General for North American Affairs
from Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs were all able to play doubles with
Michael Chang.
As with the Los Angeles NeXt Generation
Tennis Camp format, campers in Taiwan were able to receive on court instruction
throughout the day and were treated to evening activities coordinated by the
Grace Baptist Church, one of the largest churches in Taipei, Taiwan. Other
Christian sponsors included: Champion Taiwan, Navigators, and wonderful prayer
support from organizations both in Taiwan and North America. About half of
the campers made a first time or rededication of their lives to Christ. The
CFF NeXt Generation Tennis Camp continues to be a format which the Chang Family
and Foundation hope to be able to replicate in a commitment to junior tennis
and spiritual development around the world and particularly in North America
and Asia. |
